TAMK WellTech Lab in Action – Activities On and Beyond Campus

TAMK WellTech Lab is a place where a great deal is constantly happening both within the Lab itself and beyond its physical spaces. The Lab’s activities extend into everyday learning environments, events, and collaborative initiatives, where expertise and technology are actively put into practice.

One recent example of this was a pop-up stand focusing on sleep and recovery, organised in the TAMK cafeteria. The pop-up was delivered by an expert from Terveystalo together with students from the TAMK Wellbeing Clinic, and it was supported by equipment provided by TAMK WellTech Lab. The stand featured, among other things, the Somnox sleep robot and a vibroacoustic bean bag chair, which attracted considerable interest. Both students and TAMK staff visited the pop-up point, and the discussions around sleep, recovery, and wellbeing were lively and engaging. The event will not remain a one-off, as it will continue again in the autumn.

Another example of WellTech Lab’s active engagement was its participation in the ITK Conference, where the Lab presented the multidisciplinary SOTEKONE Hackathon. In this hackathon, students from different fields collaborate to innovate technical solutions to real-life challenges identified in elderly service housing within the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County. The presentation at ITK generated many insightful questions and fruitful discussions, and we also received valuable ideas for further development. The SOTEKONE Hackathon will be organised again next year.

These examples illustrate well the role of TAMK WellTech Lab as an active platform where education, research, and development come together in concrete actions both on campus and beyond.
