Maria Giovanna Manieri: Trapped in temporariness

Maria Giovanna Manieri is the Political Advisor on Migration and Asylum for the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament. She is a human rights lawyer specialised in migrants’ rights and asylum.  She previously worked as Programme Officer for the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), where she has been responsible for developing the organisation’s legal strategies and work on borders and detention. She also represented PICUM before the Frontex Consultative Forum on Fundamental Rights and FRA Fundamental Rights Platform. Maria Giovanna also worked as human rights lawyer in the UK and in Spain and on the issue of internal forced displacement at the Italian embassy in Bogotá, Colombia. She studied law at the University of Bologna in Italy and at the University of King’s College in the UK and holds a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Diplomatic School.

Elisa Pascucci is Academy of Finland postdoctoral researcher at the Space and Political Agency Research Group, School of Management, University of Tampere, where she is also affiliated to the RELATE Centre of Excellence. Her current research project looks at the impact and politics of technological innovation and private sector involvement in humanitarian work with refugees in North Africa and the Middle East.

Thomas Jézéquel: Making protection temporary: Detrimental to integration and social cohesion in cities?

Thomas Jézéquel, EUROCITIES, is the policy advisor for migration & integration at EUROCITIES, which he joined in 2012 as project coordinator. He is leading EUROCITIES work on migrants and refugees and takes part in the Urban Partnership on Migrant Integration launched by the European Commission in 2016. Thomas coordinated from 2012 to 2014 the ImpleMentoring project on “city-to-city support on migrant integration”, a pilot peer mentoring project involving 15 cities across Europe on issues of civic and political participation of migrants, public perception of diversity and management of diversity in a city’s administration. Before joining EUROCITIES, Thomas worked for Caritas International Belgium on voluntary return policies, and for the Hungarian Helsinki Committee and the Turkish Helsinki Citizen Assembly on support to asylum seekers.
