Our forum has been around for four years, and we have had about 20 Lunch Talks on topics that deal with various journalism forms under the shared umbrella of social responsibility. One of the inputs for creating the forum was the emergence of constructive journalism into the Nordic journalism field, but after that the forum has extended beyond the Nordic countries.
This offered us an opportunity for a knowledge-sharing session on where constructive journalism is at in our respective countries currently, and what does it seem to be?
The session was started by Ida Løvdahl Alvsen with the topic: How is constructive journalism used in Nordic newsrooms? The talk is related to her PhD project in which she looks at local media and their coverage of local conflicts. Part of the project is about examining if constructive journalism can be a useful tool in this. So far Ida has mainly focused on examples and reports from Norway and Denmark, but also looked at Sweden and Finland.
Ida’s talk can be viewed here. On the same YouTube channel (Sovittelujournalismi), you can in fact find all of our past talks.
Ida Løvdahl Alvsen is a PhD-fellow at Nord University in Bodø, Norway. She has previously worked as a journalist in local, regional and national media and as a freelancer with focus on constructive journalism. Ida has also been part of a Danish-Norwegian group compiling a white paper on constructive journalism.
