At TAMK Music, you can perform in different compositions and productions.

Orchestra Academy

Tampere Orchestra Academy is a cooperation form between TAMK Music, Tampere Conservatoire and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. It offers students a working life connection and training in orchestral playing, audition and performance. Teaching is mainly organised at Tampere Music Academy on TAMK Main Campus. The cooperation includes an annual orchestral period with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra at Tampere Hall. The teachers or couches are principals and players of the orchestra. The Orchestra Academy’s teaching continues throughout the academic year.

TAMK Symphony

TAMK Symphony is a symphony orchestra for TAMK Music students. Its diverse repertoire consists of classical symphony orchestra literature, new music, oratorios and operas. The orchestra also performs as a large light orchestra and baroque orchestra using TAMK’s extensive baroque string collection. Leif Segerstam, Ville Matvejeff, Huba Hollokòi, Tomas Djupsjöbacka and Jan Söderblom have been among the visiting conductors of the orchestra in the past years. TAMK’s Senior Lecturers Markus Yli-Jokipii and Tuomas Turriago work as permanent conductors of the orchestra. The orchestra performs in several concerts and joint productions every year.

TAMK Puhaltajat

TAMK Puhaltajat is a wind ensemble which performs in different compositions from a quintet to a wind orchestra. The Finnish Defence Forces’ military bands are one of its cooperation partners.

TAMK Modern

TAMK Modern is a new music ensemble which performs in different compositions from a couple of musicians to a chamber orchestra. TAMK’s music theory pedagogy students who specialise in composition are in charge of its repertoire.

TAMK Opera

TAMK Opera consists of the Opera Studio, chamber opera productions and large opera productions in every two or three years. In recent years, it has produced Kuusisto’s Moomin Opera, Haydn’s The World on the Moon, Turriago’s Princess Chatterbox and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress in cooperation with Tampere Conservatoire. In January -23, TAMK Opera performed Puccini’s Suor Angelica in Tampere Cathedral.

TAMK Musical Theatre

TAMK Musical Theatre is an expressive and energetic ensemble of TAMK’s music theatre students. TAMK Musical Theatre carries out its own musical productions and joint productions with different professional theatres. Musical concerts and students’ musical theatre demo evenings offer the stage for eager students. Spring Awakening, Hair and The Loving Madly are large productions which were recently in its repertoire.

Chamber choir Näsi

The chamber choir Näsi is a mixed-voice choir, which was founded in 1999 and consists of music professionals and experienced amateurs. Näsi is known for its harmonious sound and passion for music. The choir has regular concerts in Tampere and the surrounding area. The choir is also an instrument for choral conductor students and assists in large productions. The artistic choral director is TAMK Music’s Senior Lecturer Markus Yli-Jokipii.

Tampere Cappella

TAMK Music’s cooperation partner Tampere Cappella is a chamber choir which consists of music professionals. It was founded in 2015. Tampere Cappella’s vocal ensemble is a practice instrument for TAMK’s choral conductor students. TAMK’s students may also practise professional choral singing during joint periods with Tampere Cappella. Tampere Cappella’s artistic choral director is TAMK Music’s Senior Lecturer Markus Yli-Jokipii.
