This section sets out the pedagogical principles that guide the activities of the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). We place a strong emphasis on learner-centred and collaborative approaches that are supported by forward-looking research and development in order to foster well-being across our university community. This approach provides a foundation for the continuous enhancement of education and research, ensuring alignment with internationally recognised standards of excellence.
Pedagogical principles
Learner-centered approach
Our pedagogical practices are diverse, flexible and designed to support learning. We promote the development of pedagogical expertise and professional agency among all our teaching and guidance staff and recognise their key role within our community throughout their careers. We highlight current phenomena in learning and teaching. At the heart of our approach is the evolving role of the teacher, which involves continuously updating knowledge and skills, fostering collaboration, and applying pedagogical solutions to meets students’ needs. We embrace new technologies and explore their potential to enhance learning. We create engaging new learning opportunities and foster a healthy working community through broad-based expertise, interdisciplinarity and diverse pedagogical solutions.
Community spirit and inclusiveness
Our activities are based on the collective creation and sharing of knowledge. We support teachers in making pedagogically sound decisions and acting responsibly. Our community-oriented practices are interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral. We recognise the multiculturalism and diversity within our community and operate accordingly. We embrace the multicultural and diverse nature of our community and ensure our actions reflect these principles.
Research-based approach and development
Our pedagogical support is grounded in research on teaching and learning. We monitor emerging trends, societal developments, changes in the world of work and advances in pedagogical research and practices. We participate in national and international networks and encourage active involvement to drive pedagogical innovation across our community. We provide teachers and teams with opportunities to conduct research into their work and to engage in reflection and pedagogical development.
