FabLab celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this week. Over the years, it has established a solid role in teaching and research within Tampere University Community, reaching across faculty boundaries.

The Anniversary celebration was opened by President Keijo Hämäläinen, and speeches were also given by President Mika Hannula of Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Dean Pekka Verho of the Faculty of Built Environment.

FabLab’s activities focus on digital fabrication and the encouragement of creative thinking and experimentation. These skills naturally complement education and broaden students’ expertise. As a research environment, FabLab enables agile prototyping.

Last year, approximately 30 courses and 50 research projects used FabLab’s facilities and machines. FabLab has become part of everyday university life—a genuinely supportive resource for learning and innovation.

At the event research groups who presented prototypes manufactured at FabLab and the research behind them. In addition, student coursework from various courses was on display. Visitors had the opportunity to explore FabLab’s equipment and how it works, as well as to craft a wooden heart reflector on site.

FabLab is open every weekday, so if you became interested but were unable to attend on Tuesday, you are warmly welcome to explore our activities at a time that suits you.

Please contact FabLab if you would like to offer students the opportunity to complement their skills as part of a course. Researchers, on the other hand, can book equipment time directly through our reservation system.
