The desire to seduce the player and to generate anticipation and curiosity is a central component of eroticism and pornography. In the case of Coming Out on Top, humor becomes a form of transgression – – because it breaks taboos around homosexuality and sex, and especially around the two together, gay sex.
Samuel Poirier-Poulin analyses the gaymer experiences of Coming Out on Top, a gay-themed comedy dating simulator published in 2014 by Obscurasoft. This autoethnographical and ethnographical reflection creates a dialogue between the author’s own game experience and the experience of other players, as reflected in comments written in blogs and forums.
