Developing calculation methods for existing and especially for innovative structures like the Nordic system is challenging. The biggest hurdle? Access to reliable test data for comparison with analytical and Finite element models (FEM). Although, FEM is nowadays considered to provide accurate values this accuracy depends on the material models, boundary conditions, connections etc... The list of decisions that the designer makes while building the FEM model is almost endless.
