Next week, we’re opening the renewed and upgraded FabLab in the Sähkötalo building! New facilities provide even better opportunities for studying, research, and hobbies. We’re gradually returning to normal operations as the new spaces and procedures are finalized.
FabLab Opening Hours:
- Wed–Thu, Oct 15–16: 9-16
- Fri, Oct 17: 9-15
From Mon, Oct 20 onwards:
- Mon–Thu: 9-19
- Fri: 9-15
In the first phase, the following equipment will be available: 3D printers, laser cutters, embroidery machine, vinyl cutter, sublimation and textile printers, and heat presses.
We’ve especially increased our 3D printing capacity to meet the growing demand. Going forward, we will have 10 Prusa MK4 printers, 4 Prusa Core One printers, and two Prusa XL printers – one of which is reserved exclusively for research purposes.
There have also been changes to our laser cutting setup. The older Epilog machines have been replaced with new Trotec Q500 cutters. The larger machines are complemented by the familiar Trotec 60W. All laser cutters will now be operated using Trotec’s own Ruby software, which improves usability.
The autumn season is starting actively at FabLab, as students, researchers, and hobbyists return after a long break. To make sure everyone gets a chance to use the machines, we’ve added a daily booking limit: each user may book a maximum of two machines per day. Please note that we will prioritize bookings related to specific courses when necessary to ensure coursework is completed on time. You can start booking machines on Monday, October 13 through Resource Booker.
FabLab training for the embroidery machine and SLA printing will begin in winter. We will share more details on our intranet and website on January.
We’ll be celebrating FabLab’s official reopening and 10th anniversary in winter 2026 once everything’s up and running! Stay tuned — we’ll share the date closer to the event.
