1950–1960 Rebuilding of infrastructure calls for more engineering skills. Several new colleges start all around Finland.
1991 Test period for universities of applied sciences. Temporary licence for Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK). Focus on technology, forestry, business, art and media.
1996 Permanent license for Tampere University of Applied Sciences, owned by the City of Tampere.
1997 Temporary licence for Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences (PIRAMK). Focus on social services and health, catering and tourism, business, music and media.
2000 Permanent licence for Pirkanmaa University of Applied Sciences Ltd. Its main owner is the City of Tampere.
2010 TAMK and PIRAMK merge to become Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
2014 Permanent licence for Tampere University of Applied Sciences Ltd. The prospect for merging the higher education institutions in Tampere is introduced.
2015 The Ministry of Education sets working groups to advance the so-called Tampere3 process.
2018 The majority of Tampere University of Applied Sciences’ shares (87 %) is transferred to Tampere University Foundation.
2019 Tampere University of Applied Sciences forms a new higher education community together with the new Tampere University. TAMK’s main owner is the Tampere University Foundation.
