TAMK is the second most popular university of applied sciences in Finland.
We had a total of 24,800 applicants to degree programmes which started in 2022. 44% of the applicants had TAMK as their primary choice. Popularity of especially English degree programmes increased as their number of applicants rose by 32%. In the second joint application of spring 2022, TAMK was the second most popular university of applied sciences in Finland. We had approximately 3.5 primary applicants per study place.
New students
The number of study places increased in the past years. In 2022, 3,345 new students started their studies in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. More than a thousand new students started in both engineering and social and health care. The number of students grew by 150 students from 2021.
Number of students
The number of degree students grew by more than 500 students. There were almost 11,000 degree students, most in engineering (almost 3,900 students), social and health care (over 3,300 students) and business (about 2,250 students). TAMK also educates Bachelors of Culture and Arts, Bachelors of Hospitality Management, Bachelors of Construction Management and Bachelors of Construction Architecture. Professional teacher educations had approximately 480 students.
In 2022, we returned to campuses after the COVID-19 years. Degree students completed approximately 10,000 credits more than in 2021. TAMK aims at increasing internationality in all its activities. This can be seen in the increasing number of credits completed in programmes conducted in a foreign language in the past years. There was a 7-percent growth compared to 2021. Students also had better possibilities to participate in exchange studies, due to which the number of credits transferred from abroad grew by 28%.
Number of graduates
A total of 2,052 bachelor’s or master’s degree students graduated from TAMK in 2022. Most graduates came from social and health care, about 750 students, and engineering, 620 students. Almost 70% of bachelor’s degree students graduated during the normative duration of studies. 258 professional teachers, guidance counsellors and special needs teachers graduated from professional teacher education.
Employment
81% of students had a job at graduation and over 70% of them worked in the Tampere Region. Especially master’s degree graduates had a good employment rate at graduation. Bachelors of Health Care, Social Services, Hospitality Management, Construction Management and Construction Architecture had the highest employment rate. A good 4% of graduates worked as entrepreneurs as in the preceding years.
Almost 90% of graduates are employed a year after graduation. Five years after graduation, 86% of career survey respondents considered that they still use the competence they learnt at TAMK.
