Staff Review

HR Director Merja Jortikka.

Back to the campus

We returned to the campus on a regular basis after the pandemic years. Staff has been able to select their place of work based on their work assignments. Teams discussed combination of in-office and remote work at the beginning of the year. Competence dissemination, communality and ergonomic offices were considered benefits of in-office work.

It is great that we were able to return to the campus and ergonomic office with the setup of several screens. – Siqni staff survey in autumn 2022

Workplace surveys paid attention to occupational safety in campus laboratories. Our well-functioning practices and specification needs concerning for example use of protective clothing and equipment came up in the surveys. Workplace surveys started after a two-year break with walks in the facilities.  Superiors monitor implementation of planned measures in the risk management system Rego, which was introduced in the Tampere Universities community in 2022.

The Education and Learning Services continued the service design process, which started in autumn 2021. The staff planned service paths for different customer groups, such as degree students, potential students and continuing education customers. The work continues with the one-stop-shop principle in customer service. It means both a physical service desk and a back office as well as development and marketing of digital services.

Among teaching staff, the key development themes were pedagogical competence, technical and pedagogical support of remote teaching and development of substance competence through project work and education. Among other staff, the key development targets were substance competence, customer service and system competence. Peer support and coaching offered for superiors clarified their role and practices and thus strengthened the organisational culture.

We both disseminated information and discussed topical matters in regular info and discussion sessions with the staff. Team coaches supported doing together after the COVID-19 pandemic. We used work counselling of individuals and groups as well as the Auntie service in supporting individuals.
