During prolonged periods of incapacity for work, you can get disability pension. Entrepreneurs are entitled to disability pension on the same grounds as employees. The pension is granted if your situation meets the legal criteria for reduced work ability.

Your work ability is assessed by a doctor who is treating you. They will write a medical report B which is attached to the pension application. Based on this report, doctors at Kela and at your insurance company assess whether you are entitled to the benefits you are applying for. The decision is made by a Kela employee with the help of these experts and, if necessary, a lawyer.

If an entrepreneur’s incapacity for work was caused by an accident or an occupational illness and the entrepreneur has an accident insurance, they can also get compensation from that insurance.

Disability pensions include rehabilitation subsidy, partial disability pension, partial rehabilitation subsidy and full disability pension.

The amount of the disability pension is determined by the entrepreneur’s YEL income.
