When you start a company (a limited company or a cooperative), submit a notification of this to the Business Information System (YTJ). Provided by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) and the Tax Administration, YTJ is a service through which you can inform both of these authorities with one notification. The YTJ gives you a Business ID. You can use the same start-up notification for the Tax the Administration registers, that is, the register of VAT taxpayers, prepayment register and the Employer Register. You can also sign up to these registers afterwards through the MyTax system, when your company has a Business ID.

Registered light entrepreneurs and agricultural operators can start a business just by submitting a notification in MyTax. https://www.vero.fi/en/businesses-and-corporations/business-operations/setting-up-a-business/start-up-notification/how-to-request-a-business-id-and-sign-up-for-the-tax-administrations-registers-in-mytax/

First, determine the industry of your new company. You can find the Patent and Registration Office’s instructions on identifying your industry at https://www.prh.fi/en/kaupparekisteri/rekisterointipalvelut.html

Most business activities do not require separate permits, but some industries are exceptions, requiring you to apply for permits. With the help of the links provided on this page, find out which notifications and permits are potentially required in your industry.
