Light entrepreneurship

How do you become a light entrepreneur? You become a light entrepreneur by simply signing up to one of the numerous companies providing invoicing services. Signing up is free. However, it is wise to find out beforehand what you are setting out to do, for instance, by reading this Guidebook.

Light entrepreneurs agree on assignments with principals, that is, the people who are buying services from them. Salaried work must not be invoiced through invoicing services. The principals are responsible for ensuring the correct type of relationship (employment or contracting).

Well-known Finnish invoicing service companies include Eezy, Free, Finjob, Odeal, Omapaja, Toimipiste and Ukko. There are also numerous good smaller companies. The bank Osuuspankki offers a “registered light entrepreneurship service”, as do some invoicing service companies.

In recent years, light entrepreneurship has become increasingly common. According to the Uusi Työ association, which represents invoicing service companies, there were 150,000 light entrepreneurs in Finland in 2019, whereas only three years earlier the corresponding figure was an estimated 85,000.
