Recording assessment information in the Sisu system

This page provides instructions for teachers at Tampere University on how to record the exam assessment information in the study information system Sisu. There are three different ways to record the assessment information in Sisu:

  • Assessment information of completed electronic exams can be entered manually to Sisu. Instructions: Assessing implementations in Sisu (Intranet)
  • Assessments information can be imported to Sisu in bulk using a CSV file. Instructions below.
  • Automatic transfer of assessment information from the EXAM system to Sisu. Instuctions below.

Using a CSV file to import assessment information to Sisu

The responsible teacher records the assessment information in the Sisu system when the assessment is locked in the EXAM system. You can use a CSV file to import assessment information in bulk to the Sisu system. You can only import the assessment information of students who are enrolled for the implementation in question. Students’ enrolment must be confirmed.

N.B. The import of the assessment information to Sisu must be carried out before the student’s exams are archived. Once students’ exams are archived in the EXAM system, it is no longer possible to create a CSV file of the assessment information.

Please read the general instructions about implementation evaluation with a CSV file. If you want to use a CSV file, that is downloaded from the EXAM system to import student assessment information into Sisu, please also read the instructions below. The instructions below will guide you through the process of converting the CSV file, which you download from the EXAM system, into a format that is compatible with Sisu.

1) Save the assessment information stored in the EXAM system as a CSV file

Log in to the EXAM system and search for the right electronic exam. When you have found the exam, go to the Study attainments tab of the exam and download the confirmed assessment information as a CSV file by selecting “Print selected exam results to a file”. Save the CSV file on your computer. Please do not make any changes to the file at this point.

2) Convert the CSV file into a format compatible with Sisu

The converter will only work if the grading scale for the exam in the EXAM system is 0-5 or pass/fail and Finnish, English or Swedish is marked as the language of the exam in the EXAM system.

Drag the CSV file to the box below to automatically convert the file into a CSV file that is compatible with Sisu. If the file was successyllu converted, you will next see a download window where you can open/save the converted CSV file.

  • The column names will be replaced with the column names used in Sisu.
  • All extra columns that are not needed in Sisu will be deleted.
  • No other student numbers, except Tampere University’s student numbers, will be retained.

Save the converted CSV file on your computer.

3) Import the CSV file into Sisu

The requirements of the CSV import are: The number of credits and the completion language that appear in the CSV file must be identical to the number of credits and the language of the assessment item of the course in Sisu. Students’ grades must fall within the specified grading scale.

Log in to Sisu and import the assessment results using a CSV file.

If necessary, you can edit the assessment information in the CSV file, for example, in Excel before importing them into Sisu. Especially if there are two or more different assessment results per student, it is important to delete the extra rows from the file to make sure that the student gets the right grade. Instructions for removing the double rows: Delete rows in Excel file (.docx)

Automatic transfer of assessment information from the EXAM system to Sisu

1) Requirements for the electronic exam

In order for the assessment information to be transferred to Sisu automatically, the exam must be connected with the implementation instead of the course unit. The type of examination should be “Whole course grade” and the grading scale of the exam should be the same that the assessment item of the course has in the Sisu system (0-5 or Pass/Fail).

2) Requirements for exam assessment

The assessment in the EXAM system is possible on page Submission assessment.  Give the student a grade and check that the type of exam is Whole course gared. The selected language is irrelevant, but the credits must be matched with the credits of assessment item. If the above instructions have been followed, no changes to these need to be made. Finally, press the button Save and lock the assessment. The assessment information will automatically transfer from the EXAM system to Sisu to the implementations page called Assessment. There it needs to be confirmed.

If there was an error in the assessment information, you will soon receive an email notification. This is a compilation email containing information about one or more students whose assessment information did not transfer to Sisu and the reasons why the export of assessment information was not successful. The assessment information that did not transfer must be entered to Sisu manually. Changes can not be made to locked assessment information in the EXAM system.

Other considerations:

  • If “No grading” has been selected as the grade for the exam, the integration does not transfer the student’s assessment information to Sisu.
  • Assessment information can only be exported to an implementation once. If you try to export a new assessment information for the same student to the same implementation, an automatic email notification is sent to the examiner about the error. The final grade must be entered manually in Sisu.
