Where can I take an electronic exam?

Electronic exams in the TUNI EXAM system are primarily taken in electronic exam rooms located on campus. Students of Tampere Universities can take their exams in an electronic exam room at Tampere University or Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The exception is accessible exam rooms. An accessible exam room at a higher education institution is intended only for that institution’s students who require a separate exam room, the use of assistive devices, step-free access or an exam with personal assistance. If the exam is a BYOD exam, you will take the exam in a teaching room specified by the examiner.

You can find more information about exam rooms, access rights and exam room rules on the page Student Instructions | TUNI EXAM | Tampere Universities. You can find instructions for an exam visit on the same page.

Can I arrive late for an electronic exam?

We recommend that you arrive for your exam a few minutes before the start of your booking. You may arrive late for an exam, but please note that your exam time starts running from the beginning of your booking.

Please note: Tampere University has begun renewing its access control system on the City Centre Campus. As a result, in certain exam rooms, you may arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before the start of your booking and no later than 15 minutes after it has begun.

How do I sign in to the assigned computer?

You do not sign in to computers in the exam rooms with a personal username and password. Sign in to the assigned computer as follows:

  1. The username is tuni-exam. This username is typically already displayed on the computer.
  2. Leave the password field empty.
  3. Press the Enter key.

What should I do if my exam is interrupted?

You can find instructions next to the assigned computer in the exam room. In addition, you can find solutions to the most common technical problems by double-clicking the HELP icon on the computer desktop. No other technical support is available during the exam.

If your exam is interrupted due to a technical fault, a disturbance in the exam room or any other reason, sign out of the computer, leave the exam room and submit a non-completion notice. You should submit the notice as soon as possible by emailing exam (at) tuni.fi. Include the following information in your email:

  • first name and surname
  • TUNI email address
  • name of the exam and examiner
  • time of the interruption
  • reason for the interruption

When may I leave the exam room?

You may leave the exam room as soon as you have submitted or discontinued your exam submission.

Please note: You may not leave the exam room during an ongoing exam and then return later to continue your exam submission.

How do I add another examiner/assessor to an exam?

The examiner of an exam can add other examiners or assessors to the exam.

  1. Sign in to the TUNI EXAM system.
  2. Find the correct exam on the Dashboard page.
  3. Click the exam title.
  4. Open the Basic information tab.
  5. Go to Examiners/Assessors.
  6. Enter the person’s name in the search field.
  7. Select the correct person from the menu.
  8. Click the Add button.

If you cannot find the person in the TUNI EXAM system, ask the person to sign in to the TUNI EXAM system with their TUNI username and password. This will create an examiner user role for the person in the TUNI EXAM system, after which you can add the person as an examiner or assessor to your exam.

If the system does not recognise the person as an examiner, please contact us by email at exam (at) tuni.fi.

How do I republish an exam?

If the exam has closed because the exam period has ended, you can reopen it by updating the exam period. You can find the exam on your Dashboard page in the Archived exams or Unasessed exams tab.

How can I change the maximum exam duration?

If there are no bookings for the exam, change the maximum exam duration on the Publish tab.

If there are existing bookings, please contact us by email at exam (at) tuni.fi. We can change the maximum exam duration, but you must inform students who have already made a booking that they need to delete their existing booking and make a new booking for a new exam time.

How do I release an exam attempt for a resit?

If a student has started an exam but decided to discontinue it, you can release the exam for a new attempt via the Study attainments tab.

  1. Sign in to the TUNI EXAM system.
  2. Find the correct exam on the Dashboard page.
  3. Click the exam title.
  4. Open the Study attainments tab.
  5. Click the Aborted exams link.
  6. Click the Release button next to the student’s name.

If the student has used all attempts allowed for the exam (attempts before grading), grade the submitted exam submission and lock the grading. After that, you can instruct the student to book a new exam time for the same exam if the exam period is still ongoing. If necessary, change the end date of the exam period. Alternatively, you can create a personal exam for the student.

If the student was unable to complete the exam due to a sign-in problem, for example, the student can book a new exam time as soon as the previous booking has ended.

Where can I find my exams in TUNI EXAM?

You can find your exams on the Dashboard page. The exams are organised into the following tabs: Active exams, Unasessed exams, Archived exams and Drafts.

If the exam is a joint exam, click the Dashboard menu to display the Joint exams option.
