Tamppi Areena

The sports arena Tamppi Areena was built in 2002 and extended in 2013. It is owned by University properties of Finland Ltd., which rents the facilities to the university.

Ball games hall

The hall has a 1000 m² (22mx45m) sports hall, which can be divided in three equal courts using curtains. The floor is covered with Upofloor Pulastic. There are six badminton courts, one longitudinal and three transverse volleyball court, two transverse and one longitudinal basketball court, three transverse floorball rinks, as well as one pitch for indoor football. Other activities such as martial arts, dance, table tennis and ultimate frisbee can also be played in the hall.

Gyms

There is a 150 m² gym on the second floor of Tamppi Areena with versatile and high-quality Nautilus equipment purchased in 2022. In the arena extension there is a weight training-specific 240 m² gym. There is also a wide selection of equipment for free weight training.

Group exercise room

There is a 350 m² group exercise room in the Tamppi Areena extension. The room has mirrored walls and a parquet floor. In addition to group exercise classes, the room can be used for martial arts, dance, self-directed training, etc.

Climbing wall

There is a climbing wall in the lobby of Tamppi Areena ball gaming hall. It was built in 2017. The wall can be used for bouldering, leading and top rope climbing. All climbing activities are organised by the climbing club Tekiila.

Dressing rooms

Downstairs in the Tamppi Areena there are two changing rooms for men and women. The changing rooms have bathrooms and showers. Downstairs you will also find men’s and women’s toilets and a handicap toilet.

Upstairs in the Tamppi Areena there are men’s and women’s changing rooms next to the gym. The changing rooms have bathrooms and showers.

In the Tamppi Areena extension there are men’s and women’s changing rooms downstairs next to the gym. The changing rooms have bathrooms and showers. In the arena extension there are also two disabled toilets, one upstairs next to the group exercise room and the other downstairs next to the gym.

Downstairs of the Festia building there is a unisex dressing room with a bathroom and a shower.

Customer service at Tamppi Areena

Customer services is located downstairs at Tamppi Areena. There the sports coordinator and hall supervisors help you with sports-related questions. Here you can see the Customer service opening hours. There is also a billiards table in the lobby.

Customer services can also help you with:

  • activating the access rights on your card
  • the booking of time slots in Tamppi Areena and Bommari
  • badminton equipment sales
  • questions and problems related to the SportUni fee and access card
  • sports equipment loans (baseball equipment, sport team vests, first-aid kits , ultimate discs etc.)

To enter each sport centre you need to get the access rights by paying the SportUni fee and activating your card at the customer service desk. When you use the facilities you have to stamp your card to a reader when you go in. Personnel are supervising the access rights in our sports centres.

Outdoor facilities

Outdoor gym

The outdoor gym is located on the front lawn of Hervanta campus. The gym was built in 2017. The gym has barbells, bars, rings and boxes for various weighted and body weight functional exercises.

Beach volleyball court

Built in 2008, the beach volleyball court is located behind the rear parking area of Tamppi Areena. The thick layer of special Beach volleyball sand guarantees an authentic playing experience.

Bommari

From the Rakennustalo building, you can take the lift or stairs down to the bomb shelter – Bommari – where there are various sports facilities.

Floorball courts

There are two floorball courts covered with Finntred Sport floorball carpet. The courts have been renovated in 2016.

Tatami

An 8×12-metre tatami with elasticity base was built in Bommari in 2005. Tatami can be used for all kinds of martial arts. There are two punching bags by the tatami.

Climbing wall

All climbing activities are organised by the climbing club Tekiila.

Mini skate ramp

5 x 10-metre mini skate ramp was built in 2008.

Ski waxing point

There is a wide network of ski tracks maintained by the city of Tampere. The ski waxing point can be used to maintain your snowboard or cross country skis. It is located in the hallway next to the floorball courts.

Ball Wall

Hervanta campus (bommari) has a Ball Wall for players of many different sporting activities. It was built in 2011. The inelastic wall can be used to practice golf, baseball, frisbee golf etc.

Parking

There are some 3-hour parking spots next to Tamppi Areena. More information about parking on Hervanta Campus.
