SportUni Hippos Gym is located on the TOAS Hippos and has a total area of 425 m². The gym is included in the SportUni sports fee, excluding the per visit fee. Residents of the Hippos buildings who are not students of the Tampere university community (TAU/TAMK) may use the gym by paying a separate fee.
Access and Entry Rights
SportUni Hippos is open every day from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Access to SportUni Hippos is via the lobby of the Uimalankatu 1D building (1st floor) during opening hours. Outside of these hours, entry is through the stairwell at the back of the Uimalankatu 1D building to the ground floor. Doors leading to SportUni facilities are marked with SportUni logos. The gym can also be accessed via the lift located in the lobby of the Uimalankatu 1D building.
Entry to the gym is granted via a virtual access card that is downloaded to your smartphone (used at both SportUni City Centre and Hippos). Once you have paid the SportUni sports fee, you will receive an automatic instruction email to your TUNI email address. The email is sent from either stidmobile-id@stid.com or noreply@stidmobile-id.com. The message instructs SportUni users to download the STid Mobile ID app and activate the virtual access card within the app.
Use the virtual access card to open the door and also present it to the reader inside the gym.
If you are unable to use the virtual access card for SportUni Hippos/City Centre facilities, you may collect a physical access card from the customer service desk at SportUni Kauppi during opening hours.
The access card is personal and must not be shared with others. Entry to the sports facilities is not permitted without the SportUni fee or card, and it must be scanned at the reader each time you use the facilities. Misuse of the card may result in the removal of access rights – please refer to SportUni’s terms of use.
Customer Service
There is no regular customer service at SportUni Hippos. Customers of Hippos are also served by SportUni Kauppi’s customer service. You can find SportUni’s customer service opening hours .
Gym Facilities
The gym (425 m²) is equipped with high-quality Gymleco lever machines, as well as equipment and machines from Circle Life, Eleiko and Crossmax. The space caters to a wide range of users: it is divided into areas for weightlifting, free weights, and machines, and also offers excellent facilities for functional training.
Changing and Washing Facilities
SportUni Hippos provides changing and washing facilities, including separate changing rooms and toilets for men and women, as well as a unisex changing room and toilet. There is also an accessible toilet in the gym area. You will need to bring your OWN padlock for the lockers in the changing rooms.
Parking and Bicycles
There are 30-minute and 1-hour disc parking spaces in front of the Uimalankatu 1D building. Additionally, 4-hour disc parking spaces are available nearby just cross the road. Parking for bicycles are in square of Uimalankatu and in the courtyard near the SportUni entrance.
