Building an Active Operational Culture Together
One of the project’s key goals is to embed an activity‑enhancing operational culture into the daily practices of studying and teaching. This autumn, TAU has formed its own support network, representing a wide range of faculties. Two meetings have already been held. TAMK’s support network continues its active work as well.
The project supports awareness‑raising within the members of Tampere universities by offering courses and organizing trainings, theme days, events, and campaigns.
- The Study Boost group for students has been running in both Finnish and English, and a new registration round will open again in January 2026.
- TAMK launched a pilot for its Sports Tutoring course early in the autumn, and a new registration period is currently open. All the students in Tampere universities can also complete the Physical activity and Well-being course.
- The Movement as Part of Teaching pages for teaching staff on the intranet and the TLC website have been updated. They offer tips on using active teaching methods, incorporating breaks into teaching situations, and reducing sedentary time. In December, the community also held a TLC Network Pedagogy Café session on the theme Movement in Teaching and Meeting Practices.
- In November, the University Consortium of Seinäjoki, coordinated by Tampere University, organized a nature day for its students and a workshop for staff focusing on taking breaks and activating work routines.
- In October, the nationwide Move for Work Ability Now campaign was highlighted both on the community intranet and on the website. Stair Days in November were once again part of everyday life across the Tampere universities.
Growing Opportunities for Leisure-Time Physical Activity
- The MoveMate Teams group has exceeded its membership target: the goal was 200 members, and it already has 246 people seeking activity partners.
- The Move with energy-stamp pass was introduced this autumn and has attracted interest at various stand events. Dozens have become inspired to engage in independent physical activity thanks to the pass.
- At the turn of the year, the University Consortium of Seinäjoki will begin collaboration with the SAMO Student Union of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and with Seinäjoki City Swimming Hall to offer more leisure-time activity opportunities for students.
Active Campus Environments Across Tampere Universities
Various activation spots have been opened on all campuses, and they have received very positive feedback. Opening events were held early in the autumn at the Hervanta and City Centre campuses as well as at TAMK’s main campus. Work to further promote active study environments continues in cooperation with facility services and campus development.
The activation spots were also used in November during the Owl Adventure challenge, completed by 20 members of the community. A brand‑new owl badge was created specifically for the adventure, and all participants received one.
What’s Coming Next? Visibility, Training, and Practical Support
The next phase of the Students on the move project focuses on embedding practices and strengthening visibility:
- The goal is to create materials aligned with the Tampere universities’ brand in collaboration with communication unit, such as slide templates and break‑time stickers.
- The project has also been presented to the Tampere University Education Council and TAMK’s curriculum development team. The aim is to integrate Students on the move more firmly into pedagogical solutions and actions.
- The project and the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) will establish a dedicated Students on the move network for subject association sports representatives and other interested students, operating under TREY and close to the student interface.
- A Movement as Part of Teaching Moodle course is being planned for teaching staff, enabling independent learning on the topic.
- Staff competencies will continue to be strengthened through training packages and theme days organized by Hämeen Liikunta ja Urheilu ry and Varala Sports Institute.
- In Seinäjoki, the development and integration of an active work and study culture will continue into the spring term.
Thank you to everyone involved in the project and to all our partners for this year!
We wish you a Merry Christmas and an active year 2026!
Sincerely,
The Students on the move project team
